Marvin's Mini Tech Wizard Workshop

What is Marvin's Mini Tech Wizard workshop about?

Join us at Marvin’s Academy as we help kids grow their creative confidence around S.T.E.M., specifically engineering and computing. Kids will build their own computer and code in Minecraft.

They will embark on a 3-day story-driven journey that infuses Design Thinking to train their computational thinking skills.

Why Focus on Computational Thinking?

With Singapore’s aim to become a Smart Nation, PM Lee Hsien Loong has urged for students to be taught tech skills starting at a young age.  Secondary schools currently offer programming as part of the new O-level subject

NUS President Tan Chorh Chuan also spoke about the importance of Computational Thinking and how NUS was considering introducing on a large scale.

Piper Kits are here!

Based on a Stanford research on how to teach any skill by Dr. Joel Sadler, Piper co-founder and CTO, the Piper Computer Kit is a S.T.E.M. product, for kids 8 - 14 to learn how to build and program electronics.

The kit inspires creative confidence and empowerment by seamlessly transforming kids’ passive technology consumption to active learning through problem-solving skills.

How is the mini Tech Wizard workshop conducted and who is it for?

Brought all the way from US to the shores of Singapore by a team of dedicated ex-educators, the workshop combines the merits of the Piper Kits with local pedagogies for thinking and creativity.

Spread across 3 days, Day 1 will focus on teaching kids from 9 – 13 years of age to assemble a mini-computer from scratch and appreciating there’s more than just a monitor and keyboard!

Day 2 will focus on understanding input and output electronic components while completing levels in a game.

Day 3 will see the kids cementing their knowledge by designing and programming their own projects.
